On August 19, 2017, The Loveland Initiative, held the 21st annual backpack program for the 2017/2018 school year. It was a HUGE success! Over the years, we have been very successful providing backpacks filled with school supplies to lower income students in our community.
This service is important because (1) we have made a positive impact on the lives of children and families in our community, (2) we relieve the financial burden of back-to school-time on families and (3) students are focusing on learning and not on hand-me-down bags. It is about generating excitement and joy at the prospect
of students returning to school.
We would like to thank the following people and/or groups for donating funds, supplies, and/or backpacks; Miami Trails Neighborhood Network, Mosaic Church, St. Columbian Church, American Legion, Zumba Gold, Loveland Sweets, Apex Sportswear and Specialties, Linda Howell, Pam Butts, Sarah Steven’s LHS marching band.
In addition to the supplies, we would also like to thank Great Oaks Cosmetology for providing free haircuts for all kids, Mr. Photocentric – Robert Harris provided a free fun photo booth with props and a keepsake picture for all the kids. Amy Lyle the Loveland Teen Librarian provided free books, arts n crafts and helped families signup for library cards. New Hope Baptist Church provided their foyer to have signups and gym to operate the program.
As always, we must thank all of our hardworking volunteers: Sycamore Presbyterian Church, Traci Dickey – Loveland Storm Soccer Team, Cornerstone Brands, Nekisha Johnson, Dominique Jones, Victoria Nesbitt, Darlene Dar Pientka, and Bianca Johnson. All of this would not have been possible without the generosity and overwhelming assistance of so many volunteers, businesses, organizations, places of worship and our larger community.
Thank you for your support!
